Labelled section


The Labelled section tool is used to define named section lines in the model for evaluating and displaying section-based results.

When you activate this tool, a tool palette opens.

Main tools
  • Define – create new labelled sections using available definition methods
  • Properties – view or edit properties of existing labelled sections. Opens the Default settings dialogue for the selected sections
  • Delete – remove selected labelled sections
  • Change local system – change the direction of the local coordinate system of a labelled section
  • Base point – change the base point of a labelled section. The coordinate system icon is shown at that location
  • Default settings – open the default settings dialogue for labelled sections (read below in more detail)
Definition methods

When Define is selected, the following methods are available:

  • Polyline – draw a labelled section by defining multiple points
  • Line by selection – create a labelled section by selecting existing edges or objects
Naming options

The following naming options are available when defining labelled sections:

  • Automatic name – when enabled, the name of the labelled section is generated automatically based on the name of the object it is placed on

When Automatic name is disabled:

  • Name – manually define the name of the labelled section

When Automatic name is enabled:

  • Prefix – define a prefix added before the automatically generated name
  • Postfix – define a postfix added after the automatically generated name


Default settings

When you press Default settings, a dialogue window opens.

The dialogue contains one option:

  • Name – define the default name used for newly created labelled sections

The Default settings dialogue does not include the Automatic name option. Automatic naming can only be controlled when defining labelled sections in the tool palette.
