Haunch
Use the Haunch tool to insert a tapered strengthening zone at the start or end of a bar element, typically used for structural reinforcement at supports or connections.
When you select Haunch, a tool palette opens.
Main tools
- Define - insert a haunch at the end of a beam or similar bar element
- Properties - check or edit the dimensions and position of an existing haunch. Opens the Default settings dialogue for the selected elements
- Default settings - set default geometry values for newly defined haunches (read below in more detail)
Placement options
Available when the Define tool is selected.
- Top haunch - place a haunch at the top of the bar cross-section
- Bottom haunch - place a haunch at the bottom of the bar cross-section
Default settings dialogue
When you press the Default settings button, a dialogue window opens.
This dialogue shows a schematic sketch of the haunch on the left, with labeled dimensions to help visualise the geometry. On the right, you can define numeric values for each dimension.
- d - distance from the haunch face to the connected element’s reference line
- l - total length of the haunch along the bar
- h - maximum height of the haunch
- tw - wall thickness of the haunch
- tf - flange thickness of the haunch
- bf - flange width of the haunch
