Haunch


Use the Haunch tool to insert a tapered strengthening zone at the start or end of a bar element, typically used for structural reinforcement at supports or connections.

When you select Haunch, a tool palette opens.

Main tools
  • Define - insert a haunch at the end of a beam or similar bar element
  • Properties - check or edit the dimensions and position of an existing haunch. Opens the Default settings dialogue for the selected elements
  • Default settings - set default geometry values for newly defined haunches (read below in more detail)

Placement options

Available when the Define tool is selected.

  • Top haunch - place a haunch at the top of the bar cross-section
  • Bottom haunch - place a haunch at the bottom of the bar cross-section


Default settings dialogue

When you press the Default settings button, a dialogue window opens.

This dialogue shows a schematic sketch of the haunch on the left, with labeled dimensions to help visualise the geometry. On the right, you can define numeric values for each dimension.

  • d - distance from the haunch face to the connected element’s reference line
  • l - total length of the haunch along the bar
  • h - maximum height of the haunch
  • tw - wall thickness of the haunch
  • tf - flange thickness of the haunch
  • bf - flange width of the haunch
