Simple retaining wall
Use the Simple retaining wall tool to insert predefined vertical retaining structures that hold back soil in excavated areas.
When you select Simple retaining wall, a tool palette opens.
Main tools
- Define - place a new retaining wall
- Properties - check or edit parameters of an existing retaining wall. Opens the Default settings dialogue for the selected retaining walls
- Erase - remove a retaining wall from the model
- Edge connection - manage wall-to-object connections or endpoint behaviors
- Physical extent - adjust the visible range or length of a retaining wall
- Info - display geometry and property data for selected wall
- Default settings - set the default parameters for retaining wall material, stiffness and more (read below in more detail)

Contour definition methods
Available when using the Define tool.
- Straight line - draw a straight retaining wall between two points
- Line by selection - select an existing line or edge to define the wall’s path
Definition settings
Available when the Define tool is active.
- h - numeric field for total wall height
- t - numeric field for wall thickness
- Alignment - drop-down menu to set alignment of the wall cross-section. You can select between 3 options: Top/Left, Center or Bottom/Right
- Above - use radio button to define wall above the drawn line or selected edge
- Below - use radio button to define wall below the drawn line or selected edge
Edge connection functions
Available when the Edge connection tool is selected.
- Edge connection properties - select an edge of a wall to view or edit connection settings. This opens a new dialogue window
- Endpoint behavior - define how the ends of a retaining wall's edge connect or terminate. This opens a new dialogue window

Default settings dialogue
When you press the Default settings button, a dialogue window opens.
This dialogue window has four tabs: General, Material, Default connections and Stiffness. The content of the tabs are similar to other plane shell elements - plane wall and plane plate.
