Axis


Use the Axis tool to create and manage grid axes in the model.

When you select Axis, a tool palette opens.

Main tools
  • Define – create a new axis with the current settings
  • Properties – use this tool to check properties of existing axes. This will open the Default settings dialogue for the selected axis
  • Renumbering – automatically renumber selected axes according to the active Type, Prefix and No./Letter settings
  • Default settings – use this to change some settings (read below in more detail)
Main settings
  • Type – use the drop-down menu to choose Number or Letter for axis labels
  • Prefix – text or number that precedes every axis label. The used prefixes are listed in the drop-down menu
  • No./Letter – label for the current axis or starting label when generating multiple axes
  • Priority – use the drop-down menu to select Primary or Secondary to easily control appearance and numbering styles or use it later for filtering
  • Multiple axis – enter a pattern such as "4×6.0" or "2x4,3x5" to create several parallel axes at set spacings
  • Fit to storey, if possible – only available with the Select line function. If selected, extends the axis to match the current storey dimensions (X or Y-direction). When unselected, the axis will be created with the same length as the selected element
Extra defining functions

Only available with the Define tool.

  • Draw line – draw a straight line to define a new axis
  • Select line – pick an existing line or edge to define an axis on the same location

The Default settings tool opens a new dialogue window.

Functions
  • Priority – use the drop-down menu to select Primary or Secondary to easily control appearance and numbering styles or use it later for filtering
  • Add view to list – select to add the current view to the Select view list for quicker navigation
Identifier
  • Type – use the drop-down menu to choose Number or Letter for axis labels
  • Prefix – text or number that precedes every axis label. The used prefixes are listed in the drop-down menu
  • Prefix on/off – available only when the dialogue is launched through Properties. Turn the prefix for the selected axes on or off without changing its value
Label
  • Color – set the color of the axis label
  • Pen – choose the line weight for the axis symbol
  • Font – change font family and other parameters of the label. This opens a new dialogue window (read below in more detail)
  • Position – select Both, Start or End for the label placement along the axis line
  • Distance from end point – set how far the label sits from the axis line
Settings

When you click on the Settings > button in the bottom of the Axis dialogue window, a new menu opens.

Settings for the Default settings dialogue

  • Save – save the settings with a name to use later
  • Load – load a previously saved setting
  • Save as default – save settings that are automatically used as default next time in this dialogue
  • Load default – load the default settings to overwrite current settings

Font

When you press the Font function in the Default settings dialogue, a new dialogue window opens.

  • Font – select the font family
  • Size – change the text height
  • Width factor – control the horizontal scaling of the text
  • B, I, U – apply bold, italic or underline formatting
  • ab - display the text with a strike-through effect
  • Get default arrow button - restore all the settings to their default values
