Reinforcement layers dialogue
The Reinforcement layers dialogue lets you view, verify, and place or modify longitudinal reinforcement in concrete shells.
It shows only the reinforcement belonging to the currently selected layer and direction, keeping the screen focused on one set of bars at a time.
The dialogue opens automatically when you switch to the shell reinforcement longitudinal sub-type in the Concrete design tab.
Sections of the dialogue
The dialogue is divided into four sections: Bottom, Top, Middle, and Options.
You can select only one layer and direction at a time across all sections — selecting a button in one section deselects any previously active selection.
Bottom
The Bottom section controls the display of bottom reinforcement layers.
Select one of the three direction buttons to show that reinforcement on screen:
-
x'/r – reinforcement in the local x′ direction (or radial direction for circular shells)
-
y'/t – reinforcement in the local y′ direction (or tangential direction for circular shells)
-
Single – single reinforcement layer without a dominant direction
Top
The Top section controls the display of top reinforcement layers.
Middle
The Middle section controls the display of middle reinforcement layers.
Select one of the direction buttons to show that reinforcement on screen:
-
x'/r – reinforcement in the local x′ direction (or radial direction for circular shells)
-
y'/t – reinforcement in the local y′ direction (or tangential direction for circular shells)
-
None – clears the current reinforcement display from the screen without selecting any layer or direction
Options
The Options section contains a single toggle setting:
- Auto update RC shell results if they already exist – when toggled on, FEM-Design automatically recalculates and updates existing RC shell design results whenever you modify the reinforcement, keeping results consistent with the current reinforcement layout
