Resultant of labelled sections
The Resultant of labelled sections analysis result shows the combined force and moment resultant acting across user-defined labelled sections.
It allows you to evaluate the total internal load transferred through a cross-section of the structure as a response to applied loads and dynamic effects.
Resultant of labelled sections is available for the following analysis contexts.
- Load cases
- Load combinations
- Construction stages
- Seismic analysis
- Time history, ground acceleration
- Time history, excitation force
- Periodic excitation
Result selection
Depending on the selected analysis context, additional selections are required to display Resultant of labelled sections. One or more of the following parameters may need to be selected from the result lists:
- load case type, such as ultimate or quasi-permanent
- load case or load combination
- construction stage
- seismic shape
- time step
Only the selections relevant to the active analysis type are shown.
Result display
Resultant of labelled sections uses a specialised result display that is fixed for this result type. The resultants are visualised as double-lined arrows placed at each labelled section:

These visualisations allow you to clearly interpret the magnitude and direction of the resultant force and moment at each labelled section.
Key characteristics of the display:
- straight double lined arrows – resultant forces at the labelled section
- curved double lined arrows – resultant moments due to the fact that the resultant force is moved from its centre of action to the labelled section centre
- vivid colours – results on the positive direction of the axis (values are positive)
- muted colours – results on the negative direction of the axis (values are negative)
